ADHD and Executive Dysfunction

There are two main types of clients that I see for therapy related to ADHD.

The first is those who are diagnosed in adulthood: Coming to terms with how ADHD impacts your life can be an emotional process for many people who are diagnosed as adults. It often involves grief over what life could have been like, learning new skills related to how to cope with executive dysfunction, and how to utilize self compassion to be kind to yourself and your ADHD brain.

The second group is those who were diagnosed as kids, without understanding how it would impact them in adulthood: With these clients, we still focus on increasing skills and self compassion, as well as learning how ADHD in adulthood may look differently than ADHD in childhood.

Whether you have known about your diagnosis for years, or are just coming to terms with it. The journey often looks the same: understanding and repairing your relationship with the brain you have vs. the brain you wish you had.
